The Magic joined the NBA in the 1989-1990 season and became a strong contender for the championship in just a short time. When the Magic introduced center Shaquille O'Neal in 1992, the team's competitive strength was greatly improved. In the 1994-1995 season, the Magic, led by O'Neal and Anfernee Hardaway, achieved the best record in the East with 57 wins and 25 losses, and broke into the NBA Finals, although they were eventually swept 4-0 by the Houston Rockets and missed the championship.
The Magic has many outstanding players in history, including McGrady, O'Neal and Howard. Among them, the offensive backcourt composed of McGrady and O'Neal dominated the East and was called "Shaq and Penny". In addition, the Magic also achieved a record of 60 wins and 22 losses in the 1995-1996 season, winning the Atlantic Division championship for the second time in a row.
In recent years, the Magic's performance has also fluctuated. For example, in the 2019-2020 season, the Magic achieved a record of 33 wins and 40 losses in the regular season and ranked eighth in the West. In the first round of the playoffs, they lost 1-4 to the Bucks, who ranked first in the East. However, the Magic defeated the Miami Heat led by James in the Eastern Conference Finals of the playoffs and won the Eastern Conference championship again in the 2008-2009 season.
In general, although the Orlando Magic was established relatively late, it has achieved many brilliant results in its short history and has cultivated a batch of excellent players.
